What started as a simple act of kindness has continued to grow into something incredibly special within our community.
Cooking with Kindness was created to help ensure that nobody feels forgotten or alone during the festive season, particularly those without close family or support around them at Christmas. Each year, our team, supporters, and local businesses come together to provide meals, kindness, and companionship to people who may otherwise spend the day alone.
The charity has been established in memory of Pete Yates, a kind and generous soul who was well known within the community for always helping others. Whether he was fixing something, lending a hand, or simply being there when needed, Pete’s caring nature touched the lives of many people. His legacy of kindness continues through the work of the charity today.
We are also proud to work alongside Lisa Oddie, Pete’s daughter and owner of the award-winning Sunflower Lodge Nursery, who now serves as a Joint Director of the charity alongside Heidi and Betty.
Thanks to the continued generosity of our local community, Cooking with Kindness has now officially become a registered charity, allowing us to continue expanding the support we can offer to those who need it most.
As we continue to grow, we are now opening up opportunities for donations and volunteers. Whether you would like to give your time, support with deliveries, help prepare meals, or contribute in another way, we would love to hear from you.
Every contribution, big or small, helps us keep the spirit of kindness alive. If you would like to get involved or find out more, please contact the Good Companions team.
